run BBQ run! BBQ report (Houston, Lockhart, Luling)

well, i flew into houston at 1am Wednesday and driving and checking in, went to bed at 3am. Woke up at 6:30 and headed out to Lockhart and Luling for some BBQ. I only had the morning and early afternoon free so I had to go early. I arrived at Lockhart at around 9:15 am.

Smitty's - Went here first because Black's was closed. Ordered the shoulder clod and pork chop. The pork chop was just ok. The shoulder clod was very chewy and smoky, I liked it a lot, but i've concluded i like brisket better. I really wanted prime rib but it wasn't going to be ready until 11:30 is what they told me. I think this place has the best atmosphere of the bbq joints I went to. I'll never forget the minute I stepped into the pit where all the meats are stored......

Kreuz - Went here just to get prime rib, and it wasn't ready yet. This place is huge and I looked around, but I didn't get any food here.

Black's - The best brisket and sausage I've ever had. So tender, juicy and great flavor. The sauce is good too. I had some of the sweet pickle mix and it went really well with the meats. (After my first taste of this brisket, I thought that the brisket at Goode company was like eating cardboard.)

City Market (Luling)- I wish I had gone here first but I thought they weren't open, so i went ahead to Lockhart. This place has the 2nd best BBQ atmosphere. Got ribs, links, brisket. I liked the links and brisket at black's better but they make some great pork ribs here. Best I've had in Texas.

Williams Smokehouse - Great brisket and the pork ribs are ok. I prefer the ribs at City Market. I liked the brisket here 2nd best behind black's. Just because Lockhart is so far, I'd gladly go here next time I'm in town.

Luling City Market (Houston) - Got some brisket here, wasn't very good compared to the above. I was craving bbq so much I went here, but I wish i didn't cuz it left a bad memory to my bbq run.

I got to say that I was uncomfortably full after hitting all those places in a span of a few hours. (I went to Williams and Luling City Market on a different day) But it was worth it. I was really disappointed I couldn't get the prime rib, so maybe I'll go back when I get the time, hopefully with my family if they're up to it, cuz its kinda lonely eating great bbq by yourself....

Thanks for the great reccommendations.
