rumphool - thai in woodside - short review

ate here a couple nights ago pleasantly surprised; it will not be a destination place but maybe an area place? dishes were pretty alright, but not transcendent.

+ som tam (too plain, generic prep, no heart, good default heat, verging on sweet, but boring)
+ yum woon sen (pathetic seafood, too wet, decent heat as well)
+ duck salad (best of the meal, crispy shards, good portion of salad)
+ pork larb (second best, very good, not amazing but very good and loved the toasted rice)
+ drunk noodles (more complex than I've ever had it and very good in contrast to our other 4 salads)

overall, comes nowhere near the quality of ingredients at ayada or chao; definitely a more casual, quick place, judging on weaker presentation, garnishes, weak ingredients. prices were very reasonable and overall i'm glad i went to check it out. lotta people were getting various whole fish preps which looked kinda good. the noodles had heat, had whatever is tha thai equivalent of chinese-oyster-sauce-noodle-essence, a savory almost-msg flavor but not. it was good.

located across from donovan's. and one weird thing: NO BATHROOMS so i had to use the McD's a couple doors down. easily a dealbreaker.
