Can Rum(/Rhum/Cachaça) be Drunk on Passover?

NateHevens | Mar 29, 201509:23 AM     13

I'm not talking about the cheap mixing Rums like Captain Morgan and Bacardi, here.

I'm asking specifically about Ron Zacapa Solera 23, but any Rum at that level... a good, high-quality sipping rum... works, as well.

I'm just entering into a journey into sipping rums, and I have a chance to purchase Ron Zacapa. I'd like to take it now, but I don't now if it would be permissible to drink during Passover or if I would need to put it away until Passover's over.

So this question is both about Ron Zacapa specifically and rum/rhum/cachaça in general. Do they require a Kosher for Passover certification even if you're Conservative, or do they count as one of those things that are not chametz as long as you don't open it until Passover begins?
