Am I ruining my copper pots?

wallsoflight | Oct 5, 201906:07 PM     21

Hi copper pot owners-

I am wondering if my gas stove is damaging my new Mauviel copper pots (m250c set). The patina on the bottom was drastic from the very first use. When I see pictures of the patina online, it doesn't seem to be as dark.

When I clean them with lemon and/or copperbrill, it mostly comes off but dark spots still remain on the bottom despite putting in some elbow grease. Is this normal?

I have not cooked with them above medium heat, and in fact medium low has usually been hot enough that a larger flame is not needed.

I have included a few pics. The sauce pot and larger pan have not been cleaned in about two weeks. The large, sauté pan was just cleaned today, and you can see a few spots remain.
