I purchased a cheap carbon steel wok at Walmart and I followed instructions I found online to season it. I don't think it went too well and I wanted to share a picture with you guys. As you can see, the bottom is not uniformly "seasoned" and it looks peeled on certain areas. I used it yesterday and I may have forgotten to dry it up and today I saw subtle orange spots all over. Do I need to just trash this one and try again or can I recover from this debacle?
It cooks ok. I did a beef stir fry yesterday and the beef didn't stick. I'm not worried at how it "looks", I'm more worried about the wok being properly seasoned so it lasts forever. My main cooking pots and skillets are cast iron and I seasoned them well but I used the oven for those. This wok has a plastic handle so the oven is a no go.
What do you guys think?
