Rubin's Deli - Hard on the Wallet

I just started working close to this place, which made me want to try it. I walked in a couple weeks ago looking for a combo deli sandwich with two meats, cole slaw and russian dressing. They got 'em on the board, which was exciting, but most hover around the 13-15 dollar mark, so I say to the guy "I guess those combo sandwiches are pretty big?" He says "Yeah, huge". I didn't want a Carnegie size monster that afternoon so I asked if he could do a half. He says "I can make a half sandwich of anything we got, except those." I balk, say "thanks anyway", and leave. Ok, so the thought of getting one of their combo sandwiches has been in the back of my mind for weeks. Today I had the car, decided to swing by, get the sandwich, take it home for lunch, and stash the other half in the fridge, probably for a late snack. I order the "Broadway". The guy behind the counter was pleasant, "Light or dark rye?" etc. I'm excited, but then curious when he comes back and stuffs what looks like a normal looking sized wad into a paper lunch bag. He hands it to me and I pay something like $14.89 for what was an ok, but by no means extraordinary (or "huge") sandwich. I'm thinking, this would be a nice little local place to patronize, but I have credit card debt to pay off, so it's going to be out of my budget for future lunches. Also, why did the first guy say the combos are "huge" when they're no bigger than a standard deli sandwich? And what's the deal with not making a half combo sandwich for someone anyway? Feeling puzzled and poorer...
