Royal Jelly has become my new favorite casual eatery. It is a very small Bistro pub off of St John's near N. Lamar, albeit one with decent amount of outside seating.

The reason I like it so much is that there is some solid cooking happening here at a very reasonable price. There is no dish over $10 and the quality is comparable to $14 small plates at restaurants located downtown or in East Austin. Stylistically, dishes run the gamut from a Thai Lettuce Wrap with a very authentic tasting Issan style sour sausage to a more Spanish influenced grilled quail with Chorizo, white sweet potatoes, and romesco sauce. Those are 2 of my favorites on the menu but every dish has been very solid in terms of doneness, spice level, salt level, flavor composition.

It is in a Small plates format and I would estimate 4 dishes for 2 people. Along with drinks, it will run around $50 pre tip.

Check it out if you have a chance.
