Royal India, Cambridge: Weekend luncheon buffet

They have an all you can eat buffet, Saturday & Sunday, 11-4. (I’ve never been for their weekday buffet, but this one is $2 more and they promise some Bengali specialties.) What they had on a Sunday around 2:

Vegetarian samosas and pakoras
Basmati rice
Dal
Flatbread
A platter of plain chopped lettuce, cucumber, tomato
Sauteed spiced cabbage
Cauliflower and potato in sauce
On-the-bone goat meat in sauce
Tandori chicken
Boneless fish in sauce
Chunks of spiced bone-in fried fish (room temperature)
Cucumber raita, several chutneys
Rice pudding

No real standouts but everything was good. Nothing was highly spiced, but flavors were varied. Worth making several trips to the buffet to try everything while keeping flavors distinct. Nothing was tired, and several dishes were replenished while I was there. (It was really busy, lots of apparent regulars both Indian and not.) Definitely a good deal, and I want to come back for dinner. Royal India has been on the list for some time, it just moved way up.

321 Mass. Ave., Cambridge
Open daily; Saturday & Sunday from 7 a.m. Hm, anybody been for breakfast?
