I went apple picking at the Nashoba Valley Winery on Saturday. Remembering a post from general topics a few weeks ago (Karl S?) I picked a few Roxbury Russets. Whoa! Not like any apple I've had in the last decade or two.
It was the hardest apple I've ever eaten, and the scaly skin was a bit off-putting. After biting in once or twice, I peeled the rest of it and ate it with a knife and really enjoyed it. I haven't had an apple so tart (I hate really sweet ones) in a long time. It was a bit dry, though, but still good. I still have one or two in my bag of macouns.
