Hi there. Just started posting to these boards. I live in New York, but just recently took a long drive to North Carolina for a wedding, which included a stop at Lexington #1 in Lexington, N.C., (good pulled pork and great hushpuppies, something we dont get here). However, for anyone who is in the area of Staunton, Virginia, there's a restaurant just off Interstate 81, off Route 250, called Mrs. Rowe's. There's a sign pointing the way to it from the Interstate (one of those "Food: Mcdonald's/Arby's/Don Evans/" things).
The restaurant's been open about 50 years - she serves terrific fried chicken; light, not too heavy with batter, and terrific turnip greens and an excellent menu for breakfast that includes nice buttermilk biscuits. Anyone driving in that area, to or from NYC, should give it a shot for lunch or dinner.
