At Saturday morning’s farmers market in Santa Rosa, I capped an excellent morning with a pizza from Rosso’s mobile wood-burning oven. “chocolateninja” recommended the seasonal special, Gravenstein apple pizza, $10.
Topped with Gravenstein apples, fontina, mozzarella, prosciutto, lemon oil, and basil, this was more top-heavy than the typical Rosso pie. Maybe a little too thick on the cheese for me, but it tasted great and the crust turned out good and charry. I especially liked the brightness and perfume added by the lemon oil.
And here’s a shot of the upskirt. Too charcoalized in the scorching, but I prefer this to an overly blonde crust.
Rosso also sells at the Sunday morning farmers market in Sebastopol and will off this as long as Gravs are available. Having heard rumors that Rosso Pizzeria was scouting in Marin County, I asked if a new location had been decided on yet. Rosso is looking to open a branch and at this point, it will probably be in Petaluma, not Marin.
