I always read about the lack of places to eat in Fort Lauderdale and had to post about our great pizza at Rossopomodoro (tucked away off Las Olas). It's part of an Italian chain with only three locations in the U.S. We couldn't decide whether to go as we hadn't seen much written about it (We were going to be in that area but we didn't want to waste a meal as we're food loving tourists!). I had read a complaint about their using fresh basil on their pizza but I took that as a good sign! And when I read that one of the locations in the US is inside Eataly in New York, we were sold.
The pizza was wonderful- the crust, tomato sauce and cheese. It is definitely closer to a Neapolitan pizza than the typical local ones. They're using imported products - Caputo flour and canned tomatoes from Italy. The dough is spectacular - the flavor and the way it's baked. Put together with all the components, the Margherita - simple - is one I would go for if I'm anywhere near the area!
