Rose's Noodles, Dumplings, & Sweets is Amazing!

Tom from Raleigh | Aug 17, 201810:39 AM

I've been a fan of Rose's since they opened first as a butcher & sweet shop and now as a restaurant. A few years ago at Farm to Fork, the owner, Justin, served me a sample plate of his amazing charcuterie with one bite being better than the one before it. Since I live in Chapel Hill, I don't get to Durham as often as I'd like, but I did get there last Saturday and my daughter & I ate at Rose's. It was excellent!

When we arrived at noon, there were several groups in front of us waiting for a table. Surprisingly, the wait was brief and we were seated after about 5 minutes. We had a couple of apps: house-made tofu with avocado and XO sauce and the pork dumplings. The tofu was really good. Though I'm not the biggest fan of tofu, since it was made in house, I figured it had to be good and it was. The avocado and XO sauce were a nice contrast to the tofu. We had a similar dish at a sushi place in Hawaii and they used bonito flakes in place of XO sauce which were a welcome textural change of pace.

My daughter got the katsu sandwich and I ordered the spicy pork sandwich with liangfen noodles. This was served in a house made pita. I was surprised that there were noodles on the sandwich but I guess it's a thing. I thought the sandwich was really tasty. My daughter's katsu sando was great. It was served on milk bread which was a little sweet for my taste, but all the elements of the sandwich came together nicely. We were served some rice bran pickles on the side and I really liked them. I do some pickling at home and hadn't mastered this technique, so I was really eager to try them. The flavor is a lot softer than a salt or vinegar ferment. Rose's is really serving really interesting food that you can't find elsewhere in the Triangle. I think they're my favorite spot in the Triangle right now. Check them out if you haven't been.
