I have been pouring over past posts and other sources, but am having a hard time getting a read on Checchino and have found very little on H. del Orso -- admittedly very different sorts of places -but they are for different nights. For our meal to try roman classics like pajata and abbacchio, I am trying to decide between Checchino and the uniformally well reviewed (and blessed by Slow Food) Matricianella. Am leaning toward Matricianella, but am hoping to get some sage chowhound advise on this.
For a "fancier" meal, we are thinking about H. del Orso (a brother of a friend is a very junior chef there, so that is a potential plus), but have been able to find very few reviews, so, other than it is under the umbrella of Gualtiero Marchesi, we don't really know how reliable it is. Any views fellow hounds?
