My wife and I are staying in Rome for two weeks (may 6 - 20) in an apartment in Trastevere on Via della Pellicia. Our anniversary falls in the middle of our trip and we'd like to go out to an interesting restaurant to celebrate it.
Since we are staying in an apartment our intention is to cook our evening meals at home and do most of our dining out over lunches in places we find in whatever corner of the city we are in that day.
In terms of the anniversary dinner I'm not looking for something totally deluxe but rather options that combine great food choices, friendly staff and interesting atmosphere/ambiance.
I've read through much of the Rome discussions on the board and checked out whatever websites that were available (what did we do before the internet?) but it all seems a bit daunting.
We are willing and able to travel to different areas of the city and don't need to make the evening a big splash in a name restaurant, in fact, the eating experience that we remember most fondly from our last trip to Rome (11 years ago) was a dinner we had in a small restaurant on a street north of the Colosseum that had about 8 tables with the husband working the front of the room and the wife in the kitchen. I can't remember the name of the restaurant or the street but we enjoyed that meal as much as other dinners we had in 'name' restaurants.
As I said previously, opinions and suggestions will be gladly accepted.
