Rocket Pig: Chelsea's Hidden Gem

missmelissny | Sep 16, 201605:47 AM     1

Standing proudly near the NW corner of Chelsea is the definition of a "hole-in-the-wall" eatery that's affectionately known to its many admirers as Rocket Pig.
Our office recently moved, so 600 hungry hungry hippos at lunchtime have descended upon this unsuspecting pork haven... but somehow there's still hardly ever a line.
Over the last two weeks I have eaten the Shorty sandwich four times. And I regret nothing. The Shorty consists of melt-in-your-mouth smoked spice-rubbed pork on a perfectly crunchy-on-the-outside lighter-than-air on the inside ciabatta roll with a delightfully gooey red onion jam + mustard sauce served with a pickle and hot sauce on the side. I'm a hot sauce fiend, so I add the whole little container's worth to my sandwich for a nice extra zing.
Though there is no seating area (the little patio to the left of it sadly doesn't belong to them) there's a lovely standing place inside and immediately outside the eatery where you can enjoy your meal. And while the service is always fast (everything's made to order), the employee may or may not hate their job. Which is fair, considering some of the people they probably have to deal with, just don't expect the interaction between you and them to add greatly to your experience. But that's ok, because you're there for the sandwich, not the banter. HIGHLY recommend this place to tourists, locals, extra-terrestrials, everyone. There is literally no way to be disappointed. Unless you're a vegetarian. In which case why did you bother to read this entire thing.
