I decided over the weekend to make some rock candy with the kids. I've done it before, years ago, but this round seems to not be working. I used the proper proportions of sugar and water (2x sugar, 1x water), made the solution, and all my equipment is fine. I'm using small wooden skewers and used edible glue to stick a few crystals of sugar to each stick.
It's been 3 days now and nothing has happened. I still see the glued crystals to on the sticks, but they are not growing at all. The only thing I did differently this time around was that I used turbinado sugar instead of regular white sugar (It's all I have in the house, we don't use white sugar). I doubt this would make any difference, but...?
Otherwise, what can cause this to fail. The solution is about as saturated as it is going to get, I even have it in a cool area to help it along (not the refrigerator, don't worry). Anything I should think about to help it get started. Thanks ahead for any suggestions.
