"By the time the desserts rolled around, most of my tablemates wore the stunned, pole-axed look of children who’d stayed too long at an amusement park. Possibly it was the mountains of overpriced, occasionally slapdash food; possibly it was the decibels in the room, which rose, as the evening wore on, to clamorous levels. If you have the fortitude, however, there’s solace in the restaurant’s selection of quite decent desserts:
