Only learned this today as I was going to suggest it as a "reasonably priced date night spot" in another thread, only to look it up and find it is no longer open. Sad.
I know it wasn't fancy or maybe as stand out spectacular as some of Philly's other Italian BYOBs. But for the many years I lived nearby at 20th & South, it was my neighborhood hang and stand-by for easy weekend meals out with my sweetie. We had a lot of our early "date nights" there right through to our engagement celebration dinner. Roberto and his brother always treated us so well, like family, and I brought so many out of town friends there through the years who wanted a "Philly Italian" experience but I wanted to treat them to something a bit better than standard red gravy. And friends always loved it, Roberto always bringing out surprise dishes to the table and making sure everything was good.
I'll really miss the veal milanese there (my favorite), the branzino, the smoked mozzarella appetizer (and grilled calamari when they had it.) Apparently it's going to open under new management as "Ti Penso" at some point, but...for me it's one less reason to revisit my old neighborhood when I find myself in the city for the evening.
