i find myself frequently having a craving for roast pork buns (and other savory chinese bakery items). but, the only places i know of for a reliable fix are in either chinatown or flushing. as i work up by columbia around 116th, or transfer trains in midtown, neither option is very convenient. does anyone know of any places where I can pick up some roast pork buns either in the upper west side or midtown? i know it's slim pickin's and all that for these two areas, but i'll even settle for mediochre buns...as long as they're not toooo awful. for a little while the 51st st china fun was good for this purpose, but their buns were $1.25 (loaded with meat and damn good though)...and then they closed. sigh.
please please please, save me from going ridiculously out of my way for a couple of buns. although, i guess that's what being a chowhound is about.
