roadtripping: help from New England to Memphis TN

cheesehead in recovery | Feb 18, 200309:58 PM     2

I'm road tripping from Boston to Memphis next week. does anyone have any recommendation for cheap & clean accomodations en route? Which way is the most interesting? (never been south of Washington DC!/ Des Moines IA, which sort of feels south) Also -- i need recommendations for a vegetarian - i'll go to a BBQ but what can i eat? Do they put pork in everything down there? Sorry to be so un-enlightened..about the South - but i've never been down there. We prefer to avoid places like Denny's and IHOP if possible - diners are good. Any feedback is welcome.
