I wanted to give a reminder that the Rittenhouse Row spring festival is this saturday May 7 from 12-5, on Walnut street between broad and 20th street.
Chowishness varies from year to year and from booth to booth, but many restaurants have $2 - $7 items to try out.
Some of our chowish finds in the past 5+ years include:
$2 steak au poivre & creamed spinach from Smith & Wollensky when they opened. It's now $5+
$1 (or $2) mini pastries from Le Bec Fin. Maybe not such a bargain compared to the $4-6 full-size pastries from Yann and Miel.
A sausage + foie gras corndog thing that was fantastic, from Happy Rooster. But they said (the next year) that they didn't sell enough of them so they went less exotic.
Usually a barely-seared tuna thing from the Palm.
Fresh/handmade potato chips from Prime Rib for 50 cents or a buck.
Very good ceviches from Pasion.
Of course, every year there are 4-10 different crabcake & crabcake sandwiches to try out. They always seem to be mighty small for the typical $5 price and not a great value.
