Last year I was tempted by a few positive postings about Ideale but tonight was my first visit.
I have been very good about my diet, cutting starches and sweets. If I eat a potato, it's only a bite. Same with bread.
However, with Ideale, all bets were off and it was worth every pound I may have put back.
I started with ONE slice of the house baked bread served with a dish of olive oil, but the crunchy crust and the chewy yeasty interior were just too good to limit to one slice.
The Ideale salad which currently has mixed greens, anchovies, olives and is covered with shaved pecarino was ok. I wasn't wowed. I liked the assertive flavors. These are not anchovies for anchovy haters. They are the real fishy, salty, great anchovies.
The roast chicken with herbs was just outstanding. It was accompanied by roasted potatoes and asparagus. There was a pool of reduced baking juices that was excellent. I was going to have one piece of potato, but the golden exterior and hot fluffy interior was just too good to resist. The asparagus was only ok, but dipped in the chicken gravy, all was well.
Since my diet was now shot, I thought I'd try the tiramisu which the place is famous for. It is just one of the best, if not the best tiramisu I have ever had. A huge square served in a soup bowl, it is accompanied by brandied pears, organges and wonderful fresh strawberries. Chocolate sauce is drizzeld on the plate. Presentation is as good as the taste. Nice little mint leaf dusted with sugar. Pretty good cappuchino too.
The staff was really helpful in stearing you to what was the better choice. I think this may be a restuarant you have to be selective about. They were featuring out of season tomatoes in a few appetizers.
Thanks to the chowhounders from last year that brought this place to my attention.
