Ristaurante San Carlo - South St - Revised opinion

Three weeks ago I posted a report on our birthday dinner here and it was great and reasonable and I recommended it.

Tonight we decided to go with friends who have never been and - boy - was it different experience.

The food was still good. The service was terrible. Our friends ordered salads and we ordered pasta appetrizers. The salads arrived 10 minutes after we ordered but the pastas came 25 minutes later. And only after I asked three times and was told "it's coming". No apologies were given. The entrees arrived in two parts as well but only a few minutes apart. We were never asked how things were.

As we started we heard someone ask for an ashtray. It was brought to them and they lit up. The menu says at the bottom "NO SMOKING". We called over the Matre'D/waiter and asked if there was smoking allowed. He said "only at that table.". Which was one away from us! This may cause us never to go back. (Lpve how they change the rules the way they want?). When I had to ask 3 times for the check, it came. And the Maitre D didn't ask if everything was satisfactory. He just said. "He said I hope you enjoyed yourself." and left immediately without waiting to hear me say "no it wasn't".

As I said the food was delicious but with the same staff as last time, it was a completely different experience and, mostly I want to alert non-smokers or thouse who are bothered by smoking at a nearby table, that San Carlo is definitely a "non-smoking" restaurant. - despite the words on the menu.

Too bad. I really liked this place.
