risotto cake question

i am making these for a holiday party this weekend, but i am running a bit short on time (3+ hours of my day are eaten up by my long commute due to the ny transit strike). i was wondering if it would be ok to use boxed risotto with some sauteed onions and mushrooms stirred in or if this would this totally ruin the results. has anyone tried?
