Rise Sushi on Southport - ick

ed | Jun 22, 2004 10:00 AM

Tried Rise Sushi on a neighbor's recommendation that they prepare excellent sushi, and deliver it well too.

It wasn't to be.

The seaweed salad was a little seaweed and a lot of greens. It was more like a house salad with a seaweed garnish and a sesame dressing. All for the low, low price of $5.

My piece of Nigiri Suzuki (sea bass) had several bones in it, bones that the chef who sliced the piece could not have missed because they jutted out from the fish itself. This was a first for me and I've consumed a lot of sushi, good and bad, including the grocery store packaged variety.

My piece of Tai (red snapper) still had scales attached to the skin. Tai is usually served with some skin on, and of course I do not object to that. I just expect the fish to have been scaled first.

First and last experience with Rise.
