if i've missed an earlier post on the closing of one of chicago's most innovative american restaurants forgive me. but i was saddened to learn last night that zinfandel has closed. i was eating, once again, at susan and drew goss' new restaurant, west town tavern, when i heard the bad news from susan herself. it seems the landlord wanted an enormous rent increase, on top of an already hefty rent and the goss' chose to close zinfandel and concentrate on their new restaurant. zinfandel was pricey, i couldnt afford to eat there often. but susan's committment to exploring the regional cuisines (not to mention america's native alcoholic beverages) was unsurpassed. the room also was a treat. casual, comfortable, arty. Rest in peace.
