My wife and I just came back from saying goodbye to Tom Philbin and the Gin Mill, the Albuquerque restaurant/bar he started 23 years ago.
The place had some of the best red chile around. Had great burgers. Had a phenomenal menu - consistently excellent (but not too highbrow) food. Prices were reasonable.
The casinos killed it. Over the years we watched the business dropped off as the casinos nearby packed folks in to their bars and restaurants (none of which had the class of the GM's mahogany bar, great folks, and delicious food.
Lots of folks showed up tonight to give the place a good send-off. Tom's still just a phone call away. But we'll miss the Gin Mill.
