Rinsing Turkey

A friend told me her prep for turkey is: rinse out the interior with hot salted water, dry, wrap in clean table cloth and place in fridge until the morning when she will cook it. She is in her 70s and explained this is how her mother prepped the turkey. I'm thinking this is not a good idea.
