Ridgewood BBQ

Thank you again to those of you who posted answers to my question re Ridgewood's a couple of weeks ago. Bottom line for me was that I loved it.

I suppose I can see how this 'cue might not be to everyone's taste, but it definitely was to mine. My experience was similar to a post from mid-August on this board.

Got directions from a poster as well as from mapquest. fortunately i knew the area well enough that i did not take the initial part of the mapquest direction to heart; otherwise i'd still be driving in the WRONG direction. but i digress.

These folks have a full menu. But, I went two nights in a row and did not see anyone get anything other than barbecue. You basically have a choice between pork and beef, sandwich or platter. Platter is a heap o food; cole slaw, lots of fries and lots of meat. Beans are separate.

Cole slaw comes out first, it's fine but not special. The fries were good, not write-home about good but good. the meat was superb: tender with a nice chew, and the sauce was lovely. sweet but not as sweet as some southeastern sauces i've had. and, get the beans! they were fantastic, with obvious molasses and i don't know what else to yield a great little pot of beans similar but a little sweeter than what i think of as New England style - but not as heavy on the molasses.

All of this washed down with sweet tea. THIS is eatin'.

Atmosphere is very very casual and super friendly. Smoking room off to one side, main room is now no smoking, plus another nonsmoking room off to the other side.

I loved it. Go.
