Though very popular amongst Richmond Hill's Chinese community, this Chinese fine dining establishment has been somewhat ignored in most food blogs and write-ups. Known for offering top-notch banquet style dining, featuring abalone and sharksfin as stars, and in a nice surrounding, this is a go-to place when festive, celebratory events are being considered.
Yesterday, I attended my wife's Brother-in-law's retirement celebration banquet dinner at this nearby restaurant. As expected, overall, the meal was well prepared and enjoyable. Most main dishes were very good though lacking any stand-out wow factor......except, to my surprise, towards the end, the 'side-kick' rice and noodle dishes! The fried rice in particular, with lobster tamale and diced Gai Lan was simply amazing. Taste profile was very complex with deep wok-hay smokey aroma and containing a component that tasted like exotic Chinese sun-dried salted Mackerel! So good! A much, much tastier rendition than O'Mei's down the road. For the mains, the lobster, spring rolls and the sea bass were all stand outs.
BTW, the 1983 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Eiswein I brought along to go with the desserts was very pleasant and still drinkable despite of its age and slightly low neck. Pheeeew!!
