Rice Flour (only) Beer Batter?

I was watching a cooking show recently and the chef made fried shrimp with a batter made only of rice flour and beer. The finished product looked very crisp. I currently use AP flour with rice flour in my fish batter but I think I'll try this. My only concern is this batter might be popular, not because it is a better product, but because it appeals to the gluten free crowd. Anyone use this style batter or have any thoughts about a wheat flour free batter? Thanks!
