Rice Box - broadway Korean lunch spot

Shannon Clark | Dec 10, 200302:19 PM

So having heard about Rice Box in part in reading some reviews on Metromix for Koryo, I decided to see if they were open when I went looking for lunch this afternoon.

They were and I am pleased to report it is a great option for lunch on Broadway (when they are open).

They have lunch specials which are $4.99 and are probably the best deals, they also have additional dishes which are $6.95 (implying that they may indeed be open for dinner as well as lunch, but I haven't ever see evidence of this).

Today I had the Bi-Bim-Bop. Tasty, though the hot chili sauce was the red sweeter variety I've also seen for sale in some markets, not the spicier browner variety I usually get on Lawerence. But the Bi-bim-bop came with an egg cooked on top (and they asked how I wanted it cooked which was a good sign), the beef was very tasty, the selection of vegies good if lacking in kimchi, and along with it was some mashed potatoes, cabage salad, lettuce salad, a vegi potsticker, some orange slices, and a bowl of miso soup. All-in-all a very good value and tasty meal for $5.00.

Next time I may try their Kalbi ($6.95) or a dish of rice rolls and fish cakes which looks to be interesting (and spicy).

I still think that Koryo is the better dinner option, but Rice Box is a good option for lunch on Broadway (just on block south of Diversey).
