Thanks to everyone for giving me advice at these restaurants. I had a great time at both places.
Babbo was excellent. I went there once before thinking it rivaled my favorite italian (Il Mulino - I know most of you hate it and why btw. no need to bring it up here). I had the pasta menu that time.
This time I went a la carte and I came to the conclusion that Babbo was superior to Il Mulino.
There were many standouts:
Tripe - my favorite starter. Best I ever had.
Beef Cheek Ravioli
Veal Chop Special - Best veal chop I ever had and is something you can compare directly to Il Mulino where Il Mulino falls short on.
Olive Oil Gelatto :) - What can i say, I am a sucker for this dish.
Other Dishes I had
Goose Liver Ravioli - Did not like the sweet sauce it came with much, but if you do, you would like this dish at least as much as the beef cheek.
Pigs Foot Milinase - Very good, just not as good as my favorites above.
Sweetbreads - Ditto.
Per Se - Probably the best restaurant I have ever been to.
Oyster, with cream and caviar - Utterly amazing, one of the best things I ever ate.
Lobster in broth- Perfectly prepared, broth was amazing.
Foie Gras - Had both pate and seared, both were excellent and as good as anywhere I had in france. I give the edge to the seared as the sauce was stupendous.
Rabbit - Excellent - my first rabbit dish though (I think).
Wyugu Beef - Ordered this for fun. I never tried this beef before but am not a fan of Kobe and am generally skeptical of the expensive steak cuts. Once I tried this, Peter Lugers became the second best stake I ever had. A transcendant steak eating experience. Next time, I will ask for a 48oz portion :). It was the highlight of the meal.
I had a whole bunch of different desserts, all were at least as good as the torte at babbo. Sorry my memory is failing me at this point.
I gennerally rate quality food from good to excellent, but I must say that Per Se might be beyond excellent because it was superior to babbo by a good margin but I can't rate babbo as merely very good. Bravo Per Se and thanks.
