Went to Truffles yesterday.
At the door we were offered our complimentary coatchecks, the hostess was extremely friendly and was able to put our group of 16 into one group with adjacent tables despite the busy crowd.
The place was packed, and they were obviously short on staff, but most of the wait staff were very courteous and able to satisfy our needs.
Onto the food.
The appetizer. I had the salad with gouda cheese and vinegrette, which was not bad. The others had the fennel soup and I was told that was pretty tasty (better than the one we had at Azure during last year's winterlicious).
The Main. I had the salmon. It was once again average (I've tasted better). The portions were decent though and though the dish looked small, I was pretty full by the end of it. My friends got the duck confit - which was better than the salmon. I felt the salmon was a bit on the salty side, while the duck was cooked to perfection.
One note about the service when the main entrees arrived - the server almost threw some of our dishes onto the table, which I thought was very uncalled for. You can actually hear the big "THUMP" side while he was throwing the dishes onto the table, instead of placing it gently on it. So we were a bit pissed about that.
The dessert - the cashew icecream and pear chocolate tart was AWESOME.. Very tasty. Don't order the creme caramel - it wasn't that great.
IT was a good experience nonetheless..though pricey it was not a complete rip off. Oh and parking was only $10 right below 4 seasons for winterlicious patrons (no valet though).
