Review - Sunday's Fine Dining in Ybor

The spousal unit and I got the try Sunday's for an early dinner this evening (encouraged by the availability of a $25 restaurant.com cert obtained earlier today for $2 by using the promo code "FLAG" at checkout). I have to say that our expectations were exceeded. The venue is lovely and the cuisine was fresh and quite thoughtful. I started with the Panko Crusted Oysters with Wakame Salad and Wasabe Aoli, which were most awesome (if maybe a little heavy on the wasabi for my taste...but not the hubster's). The lobster bisque was quite traditional (thick and savory, but not as heavy on the cream as you get with many) and absolutely loaded with big chunks of crustacean.

Underdog had the Brick Pressed Duck, which was moist perfection and served with some fine veggie fried rice and Hibachi sauce on the side.

My Colossal Sea Scallops (five huge specimens) were seared to caramelized perfection and beautifully plated atop a bed of cauliflower puree (which was fine but, hey...it was still cauliflower) with fresh roasted corn, crimini mushrooms and white truffle oil. It was VERY nice in spite of the fact that I don't generally find cauliflower to be all that special...so the fact that it did nothing to detract from the dish says a lot. ;)

For dessert we shared a white chocolate blueberry bread pudding which was about as good as it gets for this bread pudding junkie. Dense and moist, not too sweet, just the right amount of white chocolate sauce, and blueberries that were picked just this morning. *thud*

Recommended...in spite of the fact that our excellent server let the hubster tip another 20% on top of the automatic 20% added to the total bill before the $25 discount (as mandated by restaurant.com's TOS) without a word. Kind of rude, I think. We were impressed nonetheless...well worth a try, fellow Hounds!
