Review-Rowland - Richmond, VA (where Stella's used to be)- long

Last night hubby and I tried Rowland for the first time and were quite pleased with the experience. They take reservations, which is always a plus IMO and the menu was very nice. Hard time making a choice because everything looked so good as opposed to hard time making a choice because nothing is jumping out at you.

We had a bottle of Sancerre to start. The wine list is small, but reasonable.

We shared a bowl (and the bowl is sizable) of crab and corn chowder (soup changed daily). The soup was a traditional corn chowder with bacon and in the center of the bowl was a nice portion of lump crab meat. Very good.

Another plus IMO is each entree comes with a house salad...something you see less and less. The salad was fresh and we had a choice of 2 homemade dressings..ginger or a creamy roasted red pepper. I got the ginger and hubby got the pepper and we were each pleased.

I had the fish of the day, Black Sea Bass. This was lightly crusted in cornmeal and served in a very nice sauce with baby scallops, tomatoes and green beans. Light and satisfying.

Hubby got the paella. Hubby orders paella often and then usually complains about 'something' he would change. Last night he did not. And he was also happy that it did not have any 'fin fish'. He said he would definitely get it again.

We did not have dessert but the dessert menu looked good.
