Recently on a scary adventure looking for a gas station while the car is clearly showing it's about to stop, we drove into a station at richmond and sherbourne. next to it is a pakistani joint called Sar-e-Rah. Taking all the cabbies gathering there as a good sign, we took some food home. Excellent find. We've taken out twice from there since, and we really like the food. So far we've had chicken tikki (moist, spicy with slightly sour flavour), Karahi Goshat (lamb stew - nicely spicy, meat on bones, tender, warning: tonne of ghee), chicken biryani (savoury, no sweet ingredients like raisins etc, but tasty), and bindi tori (okra stewed with other veggies, very delicious but also swimming in ghee). most dishes are on average $5 but you could get some things cheaper. I'm looking forward to trying out their chef specials and the curries (while we were there, most of the cab drivers were buying curries; since they seem to be regulars they probably know what's best).
I recommend it.
which brings me to my request. I am a west ender temprarily living in the east end, so feel a bit like a tourist looking for new experiences :) i have been to chopan kebab house (love it!) on the danforth, but have not explored yet the string of small restaurants and halal pizza houses on the danforth strip across from the big mosque east of pape. any recommendations on best places, most interesting dishes?
