Review of Montage in Naperville

O.K., I've never posted a review before, so go easy on me!

Last night my husband and I dined at Montage (rte. 59 & 95th St. in Naperville). In short it was the best meal I've had this year. This is a restaurant that in my opinion is doing everything right. The atmosphere was upscale and understated. The service was excellent from the moment we walked in the door until we left. And the food was inventive and amazing.

We started with a complementary amuse of a cherry stuffed tomato on a bed of basil infused oil. Starters were fried calamari for me and a warm duck salad for my husband. Both wonderful. The entrees we selected were the grilled Atlantic salmon for my husband and the potato encrusted trout special for me. We shared a dish of creamy mushroom gratin that was indescribably delicious. Our sommelier, Brett, expertly paired our meal with a wonderful 2000 Pinot Noir. I was much too full for dessert, so I settled for a very good cup of coffee. My husband splurged on the strawberry and rhubarb tart tatin, which he said was terrific.

We had the opportunity to meat the chef, Sean, and in our irreverent fashion, we told him "We're not worthy!" ala Wayne's World.

So it's way the heck out in the middle of nowhere in a little strip mall that also houses a Dominick's. But I encourage anyone who really loves to eat well to go. It may be way south Naperville, but it sure tasted downtown to us. If anyone's interested, they have a web site (www.montagedining.com).

Happy eating!
