Review: Another great meal at Aureole

I just had another wonderful meal at Aureole. Today I took a friend to lunch at Aureole to celebrate his upcoming retirement, and we both had a wonderful time. We each had a glass of champagne to start the celebration. We had the $38 prix fixe lunch--great price and delicious! I started with the chilled asparagus and ricotta with truffled leek vinaigrette and sunny side up egg--the asparagus were delicious and tender and worked well with the ricotta and egg. My friend started with the mozarella and tomatoes with shaved country ham, balsamic vinaigrette and basil pesto--he loved it. For the main course, I chose the hanger steak with marinated red onions, spinach and white bean puree--another winner! My friend chose the seared skate with a warm lentil salad, smoked bacon and frisee--another empty plate was left (he seemed to really enjoy it). For dessert I chose the milk chocolate mousse with peanut butter crunch; I was too full to eat the entire portion, but it was excellent. Even better was my friend's choice of the key lime rice pudding--very refreshing (and I don't usually like rice pudding). Service was flawless--as usual. The only disappointment was learning that after tomorrow's lunch, Aureole will suspend its lunch service while it makes preparations to move to its new location across from Bryant Park next year. Needless to say I'm heartbroken, but I will still look forward to my next dinner at Aureole!
