Review of etta's restaurant- pretty underwhelming

My wife and I went on new years eve and I'll say, I was pretty underwhelmed.

We had reservations for 5 pm, it was either that or 8:45 and we figured if we went early, they would have all of their specials, their cooks would be fresh, and it wouldn't be too crazy/quieter.

The good:
The only thing I can say that I was happy about was the bouillaisse. It was pretty tasty, and decently done, if not pretty expensive ($30 a bowl). The mussels and clams were cooked properly, but the squid was a little overcooked and chewy. The broth was pretty decent.

The not so good:
Our waiter wasn't attentive at all. We had to flag him down any time we needed anything. The restaurant was NOT busy so him having too many tables was not an issue.

This sounds stupid and petty, but what good is cold butter for bread? I expect at a nice restaurant to get butter that is spreadable. Our waiter wasn't around so I grabbed the hostess as she was walking by. She took it back to warm it up and never returned with it. More than 5 minutes went by and I grabbed our waiter and asked for some butter that was spreadable. It took about 10 minutes to get some spreadable butter.

My wife ordered the crab cakes. $30 for 6 ounces of crab, fries, and kale. It takes balls to charge that and not produce the best damn crab cakes, fries, and kale you've ever had. The first time it came out, the fries and kale were perfect, but the crab cakes were greasy. We sent it back and 20 minutes later they came back out. The crab cakes weren't greasy, but the fries were and the kale wasn't seasoned. At least they replaced the garnish with new.

The manager came out and asked us how everything was and my wife told him what I wrote above and he said "I'll take it off the bill." We weren't looking for a free handout and told him so. The bill came and despite him telling us so and him picking up the check to run the card, it hadn't been taken off the bill.

Whatever, I don't know if the "B" team was up at etta's on new years eve because that's what we got- mediocre food and pretty underwhelming service all at a premium price.
