Returning Tourist to Japan Seeks Help

nicole friedman | Aug 19, 2005 02:55 PM

I have recently returned to NY from an amazing trip to Japan where I experienced the best Japanese food of my life- roasted green tea icecream, cold udon in broth with kimchee, kyoto-style bento boxes for $16!!! (the average going rate for the latter in Kyoto was $50 to $100 so I lucked out with the price)
So here's my dilemma if you haven't already guessed- where does one go to find these things in NYC? I already know of a few places in the village for yakitori bars- but where can I find cold udon soup or authentic kytoto bento boxes? (I'm not counting on finding the roasted green tea icecream, but one never knows) If only I were rich I could just return to Japan:} (This was the most expensive trip of my life so far, so not likely anytime soon:} )
