I just returned from Montreal and can recommend the following places:
Tyme - In the Gay Village on Le Maisonneuve. Very creative and different. I had venison liver, which was great. They also had a veal kidney which another person ordered and enjoyed. They also had more traditional dishes like steak, pork madallions, and so on. Deserts were also great.
Cafe Chassion - North of the Latin Quarter. Inexpensive French Bistro with ourdoor seating.
Thai place on Sante-Catherine near Berri. Great cheap food--be sure to try the crispy spinach and shrimp and the salt and pepper fried squid. Yum!
