Just returned from Balt...big thumbs up for Meli

just got back to Boston after spending a couple of days in Charm City seeing my beloved Red Sox.
Had a great meal at Meli's in Fells Point.
Started with 2 apps ..the crab cakes and a mushroom in phyllo dough special.
I don;t know if the crab cakes are considered 'authentic" at Meli's (I somehow doubt it) but they were yummy. 3 small ones but 1 for each of us.
The Special was a real taste treat. mushrooms in a cheese infused phyllo dough with crushed honey walnuts and some greens for just a hint of was exquisite.
Our picky DC had the steak frites and said it was the best steak he ever had. I stole a bite and found it very tender and flavorful.
I had a chicken in penne pasta. normally i don;t order chicken in a resturant, it's usually just too boring but this was excellent.
My other DC had the steamed mussels with leeks she also said it was very good.
PLEASE if you go to Meli's you MUST save room for desserts. They were a highlight.
I had something that was not on their on line menu...a mousse like creation dusted with gold (!!!)
We also got the vanilla creme brulee and the Chocolate Framboise, all were light and airy and just superb.
The best part? 2 apps 3 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, a mixed drink, a beer, 3 desserts and 1 coffee for a very reasonable $150 total before tip. A great meal and a great value.
The next night I was in the 'all you can eat" section of Camden comment except to say i lived to eat again.
Went to the Brewer's Art and all of us got the Steak frites...very flavorful steak although the wine reduction sauce was nothing to write home about.
Exellent Beers though
Had 2 good breakfasts, 1 at Miss Shirley's on Pratt st and another in the Broadway Diner off 95 on the way home.
Meli's was the high point though and i'd return in a heartbeat.
