Had a wonderful lunch last week in a nondescript stripmall in Mount Prospect. A Reader mention of Retro Bistro led us to give it a try, eventhough it is out of our usual N. suburban lunch trolling range. Typical bistro menu, but the appetizers sounded so appealing we decided to choose 4 of those for our lunch and split them (2 of us). We had escargot (under a blanket of puff pastry). This was delightful--a perfect balance of garlic & pernod flavors. We also had crabcake in a champagne sauce (our favorite choice), portobello mushroom and foigras stuffed ravioli in a flavorful broth and REAL steak tartare. All in all, a wonderful assortment of flavors. Can't wait to go back and try it for dinner.
