restrained chow in the Hub?

This isn't the most houndish query I've ever made, but this board has never let me down, so let's give it a shot.

Mom's visiting and I'm looking for a nice restaurant for dinner this weekend. Here's the big qualification: I'm looking for someplace in the French - Northern Italian - New American axis (not Asian, not Mediterranean) that serves straightforward food with subtle, restrained flavors. My usual favorites are no good, since they feature the opposite: bold, assertive tastes (places like East Coast Grill, etc.). We've loved No. 9 Park for lunch in the past -- that's the kind of place I'm looking for -- but I'm hoping for a place with entrees in the 20-30 dollar range. Relatively quiet with decently-spaced tables would be nice too, as would someplace with parking nearby, but those are details. The style of the chow is paramount. Any thoughts?
