Philly Mag's Complete Italian Restaraunt Guide this month whet my appetete. Their review of Mezza Luna is on target, with the threee stars, but left out some practical information. Efficient service; pleasant, but with a noise level satisfactory only until 7pm. AFter that, it was painful. Tile floors on which chairs were scraped did not add to the ambience. We later learned from the ownwer, that the carpeted front room is quieter.
Not mentioned in the review was what I found to be the best risotto this side of the ocean. Really great--made from scratch, loaded with large shrimp, tasty scallops, calimari, and surrounded by juicy plump mussels and baby clams. An outstanding dish for something like $16.95.
After dinner was cleared, we were startled by a request, tactfully put, "would we mind moving to another table up front, so they could use our table for a party of three!" We graciously moved, and they equally graciously comped us for two lovely desserts and coffee.
Next time, we will plan on dinner at Mezza Luna at 5pm, with friends, when conversation would be possible.
