Resto row on DeKalb

Fort Greene's DeKalb Ave has sprouted Brooklyn's newest restaurant row.

I have tried only one place so far -- Sol -- but visitors to BAM now have more than one answer (New City Cafe, which has crashed and burned, quality-wise, since its move) to the plaintive cry, "Where can we eat dinner?"

Has anyone else checked out the scene? Restos include Mandiba (South African, I think), Chez Oliver (French bistro), the afore-mentioned Sol (Latin-Asian fusion), and a few others. Near where Carlton meets DeKalb.

Sol was empty when we sat down at 6:30 pm last Saturday for a pre-BAM dinner. We had ceviche (very good), grilled pork with black-eyed peas (yum), salmon (yum again), grilled shrimp (yum once again). I'm not sure what they meant by Asian-Latin, but everything was fresh and tasty, especially the seafood. Staff was friendly and helpful. Prices, fair (entrees generally under $20).

For late-night weekend diners, a DJ spins records, too.
