Resto recs for a (non-chow) sister's birthday dinner

Looking for a non-intimidating, good restaurant in downtown T.O. for my sister who completely lacks any "chow" tendancies.

She tends to gravitate to - inexpensive, ethnic vegetarian spots but is what I endearingly refer to as an opportunistic omnivore. Loves a good meal (definitely including meat) - if someone else pays! Not much into wine but loves to indulge in interesting cocktails.

I'd like to arrange a great night out for her and her BF. Budget around $300. Criteria: great food (preferably organic & local), service (helpful, given her culinary disabilities) and atmosphere (neither too hip or too stuffy). A pre-arranged or tasting menu might be a fun thing for them. I don't live nearby but could arrange this by phone or email.

Thanks!
