Restaurants for a short-break in Venice

romitcd | Feb 17, 201609:53 AM

I’m visiting Venice for a short weekend break (Saturday & Sunday) over the end of February and was hoping to get some restaurant recommendations. I’ve had a look through some of the posts and thought it would be easier to get some more tailored advice. We’re a couple who love food – we explore most new cities through its food and are adventurous foodies happy to try anything from hole in the wall local favourites to 3* restaurants.

We’re getting in to Venice in the afternoon on Saturday and are staying at the Gritti Palace. As it will be quite late, we were hoping to eat a relatively quick meal – maybe cicchetti at a couple of places before doing the usual tourist sites – Doge’s Palace, St Marks, etc. So could you recommend some places in San Marco?

I’ve booked for dinner at Osteria alle Testiere which I’ve seen recommended a number of times on CH. Would you recommend this over something like Il Ridotto? Could you also recommend somewhere for nice drinks after – maybe cocktails with a view (but inside given its going to be cold!)

On Sunday, I was hoping to do a quieter side of Venice – Cannaregio. Do you think it is worth it? If so, I’ve seen L'Anice Stellato and l'Orto dei Mori on CH. Which would you say is better food-wise or would you recommend somewhere else? Given that we are doing seafood on Saturday night, is there somewhere you would particularly recommend for meat?

Thanks if advance for your help!
